US-Japan Relations Briefing
On September 12, APAICS and the U.S.-Japan Research Institute (USJI) held a briefing on the results of the Upper House Election of the Japan and Tokyo Gubernatorial Election and how it impacts U.S-Japan relations. The event was held at the Russell Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill. Aiji Tanaka, Operating Advisor of the USJI, and Leonard Schoppa, Associate Dean for the Social Sciences at the University of Virginia, spoke at the event, while our President/CEO Floyd Mori moderated it.

The National Leadership Symposium
On September 23, APAICS and the Federal Asian Pacific American Council-United States Coast Guard chapter co-hosted the National Leadership Symposium at Google D.C.. Active-duty members of the United States Coast guard were briefed on communication strategies and the effects of social media on the branches of Armed Forces. Keynote speakers such as Representative Mike Honda and Secretary Norm Mineta highlighted the growth of technology and its rapid influence on today’s society.

Sixth Annual Golf Classic Tournament
APAICS hosted our 6th annual Golf Classic Tournament at Potomac Shores Golf Club in Dumfries, Virginia on September 26.
Our staff welcomed players with gift bags filled with items from some of our sponsors such as Herbalife and McDonalds. Our other generous sponsors who helped make this tournament a success were Nike, State Farm, Exxon, Edison International, Texas Instruments, NAB, Walmart, Pandora, Communications In Action, CBS Corporation, Onexis, Korean American Women’s Society, SHINE, and Southwest Airlines.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice Gala
AAJC celebrated their 25th Anniversary Celebration and American Courage Awards that took place on October 6 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C. The American Courage Award goes to an individual or organization that has shown extraordinary courage or commitment to the cause of civil rights. APAICS is honored to been given this privilege to witness such accomplishments in celebrating individuals and organizations making a difference and taking an important stand on civil rights issues circling in our communities. Among the recipients were Vanita Gupta, Khizr Khan, Jimmy Ferguson, and Walt Disney Company. They have all contributed tireless efforts in bringing awareness to civil rights, change, and encourage community empowerment and diversity. Congratulations!
