Regional Leadership Academy | Menlo Park, CA

The San Francisco Bay Area is home to over 1.5 million AAPIs (US Census Bureau, 2010). San Francisco, Menlo Park, and the surrounding areas are not solely hotbeds for technological innovation and entrepreneurship, but also make up a region rich in Asian Americans who are civically engaged throughout their communities. San Francisco’s own Ed Lee is the first Asian American mayor in the city’s history; the City Council of Menlo Park and Board of Supervisors of San Francisco are both homes to several dedicated AAPI public leaders.

The Regional Leadership Academy is a two-day leadership and training program to further develop leadership skills, promote public service, and support effective, impactful leaders in AAPI communities across the country. The program also allows APAICS to partner with local community leaders to discuss current issues affecting the AAPI community in the region, provide leadership training, and develop the growing network of past APAICS program participants. Both current AAPI leaders and those looking to run for public office will benefit from practical leadership training taking place at the Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park. The program will emphasize vital skills regarding the development of a social media strategy, campaign fundraising, and locally-significant policy issues.

The Menlo Park Regional Leadership Academy will be convened in collaboration with the CA API Legislative Caucus Institute and the League of CA Cities Asian Pacific Islander Caucus.
