Angela Toledo

Summer 2017 Congressional Intern

Congressional Office

Congressman Eric Swalwell

A

Angela is a rising junior at the University of California, San Diego, majoring in Political Science- Public Law. For Angela, becoming an APAICS summer intern meant that there would be one more AAPI representative on The Hill.  As a Filipino-American student, Angela became extremely concerned when realizing that only 10 Asian-American women serve in the 115th Congress. She personally felt the need to step up and learn more regarding the founding laws molded by the immigrants of her people. Angela has mentioned “growing up in America blinded me from issues affecting the Asian American community. Not knowing my roots, I saw APAICS as an opportunity to network and learn more of the Asian-American community.” This summer she wants to develop her skills pertaining to legislative research, build a long-lasting network with staffers in Congress and minority caucuses, and most importantly, continue to represent the AAPI minority. In her free time Angela enjoys visiting museums.
