Denise Diokno

Summer 2017 Congressional Intern

Congressional Office

Congressman Bobby Scott

D

Denise is a recent graduate from George Mason University with a bachelors in Global Affairs and a minor in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. She was an APAICS intern in the office and continued to be part of the summer internship program. Being an APAICS intern has really opened her eyes about the lack of diversity in public office, especially with Asian-Americans.  She believes that the model minority myth ignores issues the affect the Asian-American community. In her view, with representation, we can bring into light and directly tackle these issues. Denise believes that APAICS’ mission and programs do such a good job of building the pipeline between AAPIs and public service.  She looks forward to getting the ‘hill experience’ and as a Filipina-American, Denise is especially excited about interning with Congressman Scott who is the first, and currently the only, Filipino American serving in Congress.

Meet the rest of the summer 2017 interns!
