Virtual-National Leadership Academy 2020

2020 APAICS Virtual-National Leadership Academy (V-NLA)

About the Virtual-National Leadership Academy (V-NLA)

For the first time, APAICS is excited to turn our annual National Leadership Academy (NLA) into a virtual training program! This academy is meant for AAPI leaders who are running for office, current elected officials, and elected officials preparing to run for higher office. Over the course of four days, this virtual academy will deliver important training and resources for the next group of promising AAPI political leaders while ensuring the flexibility needed to connect safely and learn virtually.

The V-NLA consists of interactive leadership training with special guest speakers. A detailed breakdown of trainings will be provided closer to the start date.

Sessions include:

  • planning your campaign
  • developing and telling your campaign story
  • base building and outreach
  • fundraising strategies and tips

The V-NLA will be spread out over 4 consecutive Saturdays.

Day 1: Saturday, July 11, 2020

Day 2: Saturday, July 18, 2020

Day 3: Saturday, July 25, 2020

Day 4: Saturday, August 1, 2020

Note: Participants must commit to attending each session to complete the program.

  • Each training day will last 3-4 hours
  • Trainings will begin mid-afternoon (Eastern Time) to accommodate multiple time zones.

In response to COVID-19, the Virtual-NLA will be conducted online. Virtual tools such as Zoom will be used.

About the National Leadership Academy

The APAICS National Leadership Academy (NLA) is a leadership training program for current elected officials and individuals seeking to run for public office.

The NLA was established in 1999 to provide Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) elected officials with the skills and resources needed to excel in their current office as well as prepare them for opportunities to advance into higher office. The NLA brings together a bipartisan group of promising AAPI political leaders from state legislatures, city councils, and local governing bodies from all across the country.
