WASHINGTON–The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is pleased to announce the election of its 2025 Board Officers. Jason Chan, former Board Secretary, has been elected as Board Chair and will succeed Susan Jin Davis, who has served as a Board Member since 2008 and Board Chair since 2013. The 2025 APAICS Board of Directors will begin its term in January 2025.
Founded by former Secretary Norman Y. Mineta in 1994, alongside the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), APAICS is a national non-partisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AA & NH/PI) participation and representation at all levels of the political process, from community service to elected office. Serving as the educational arm of the CAPAC, our programs focus on developing leadership, building public policy knowledge, and filling the political pipeline for AA & NH/PIs to pursue public office at the local, state, and federal levels. APAICS is the sister organization of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.
“Chair-Elect Jason Chan has the vision and leadership to begin a new chapter for APAICS. I congratulate Jason on his election, and I know he will continue to build upon Secretary Mineta’s vision of what we can achieve together,” said Susan Jin Davis, outgoing APAICS Board Chair. “Leading APAICS as Board Chair for the past 11 years has been one of the great honors of my career. I look forward to continuing to support APAICS, and I will always be part of this community. I am thrilled to see where we are headed next.”
A recognized leader in the AA & NH/PI community, Chan serves as Director of External Affairs, where he leads AT&T’s national AA & NH/PI engagement. Before joining AT&T, Chan held multiple government appointments with the City and County of San Francisco, including Appointments Secretary for Mayor Gavin Newsom, and served as the Political Director for the Ed Lee for Mayor Campaign. Chan also serves on the board of Equality California, the nation's largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization. Chan has previously served on the California Agricultural Association, appointed by Governor Jerry Brown.
"Susan’s leadership has been a beacon for our organization and our communities," said Jason Chan, incoming APAICS Board Chair. "As we embark on this next chapter, I am honored to lead APAICS and advance our mission of building a stronger, more inclusive political pipeline. With the largest and most capable staff in our history and programs that are second to none, we will honor the past, imagine the future, and create lasting opportunities for the next generation of AA & NH/PI leaders."
“Susan Jin Davis, our longest-serving board chair, has been a pillar of APAICS and the AA & NH/PI community. She has mentored countless AA & NH/PIs, and her impact can be felt in every program we have. We will forever be thankful for her service, and I have no doubt she will continue to serve our communities in more ways to come," said Madalene Mielke, President and CEO of APAICS. "I am delighted to welcome Jason Chan as our new Board Chair. Since he joined the Board in 2017, his commitment to our organization and community has been evident in all he does. As Chair, his direction will steer the expansion and growth of our programs. I, along with the rest of the APAICS staff and Board, look forward to working with him.”
Chan will be joined by board officers Robin Rorick as Board Treasurer and Mona Mohib as Board Secretary.
