Mia Lanphear

Staff Assistant

202-296-9200

In 2023, Mia graduated from American University’s School of International Studies with a regional focus on the Middle East and North Africa and a thematic focus on identity and culture. While earning her degree, Mia spent three years helping to organize an annual Model UN Conference for high schoolers hosted at American University. In her final year, she served as Simulation Director for the 1,000-person high school conference focusing on current issues facing sub-saharan Africa. She also devoted her time to working as an undergraduate research assistant, gathering and analyzing data on Iran’s relationship with the United Nations and relevant discourse on social media.

Mia’s interest in AA & NH/PI representation stems from watching her mother and extended family face discrimination due to a lack of visibility and understanding. Furthered by her learning about identity’s connection to politics during school, Mia carries this commitment to diversity to her position at APAICS.
