The Hon. Selena Torres
Nevada Assemblywoman & Honorary Co-Chair
Selena Torres is an educator and was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her father fled the Salvadoran civil war and her mother left Hawaii to pursue her career as a high school English teacher. Selena’s parents taught her the values of hard-work, education, and the importance of giving back to her community. Her parents’ eventually made Assembly District 3 their home because the diversity reflected that of their own family.
Selena is a product of Nevada’s public education. She attended Clark County School District for K-12, the College of Southern Nevada, and received her Bachelor’s in English Literature at the University of Nevada, Reno. In December 2019, Selena graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with her Masters in Education.
Selena brings her passion to the classroom every single day as a High School teacher and is a proud member of the Nevada Education Association. As a legislator, she draws from her experience as a public school teacher to create a more equitable Nevada for all.
Selena has sponsored legislation that has eliminated the barriers to professional and occupational licenses, creates a more equitable education system, and improves working conditions.
During the 2021 Legislative session, Selena served as Vice Chair of the Assembly Government Affairs committee and as a member of the Assembly Education and Assembly legislative Operations and Elections. Additionally, she has served as a member of the Judiciary committee, Legislative Committee for Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice, Interim Government Affairs, and various community boards and commissions. Selena is the Chair of the Nevada Hispanic Legislative Caucus.
